2:1

當那些日子、有詔諭從該撒亞古士督傳出來，叫普天下都受戶口的登記。

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

2:2

這是頭一次的戶口登記，是居里扭做敘利亞巡總督（原意為『皇省長』）的時候舉行的。

(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

2:3

眾人都去登記戶口，各歸各城。

And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

2:4

約瑟、因他本是大衛一族一家的人、也從加利利、由拿撒勒城、上猶太去，到了大衛的城名叫伯利恆。

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

2:5

他跟許配歸他、身孕已重的馬利亞同行，要登記戶口。

To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

2:6

他們在那里的時候、馬利亞生產的日子到了，

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

2:7

就生了她的頭胎兒子，用布包起來，讓他躺在秣槽里，因為客店里沒有地方容納他們。

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

2:8

在同一個地區，有牧人露宿在野地里，夜間守更，看顧羊群。

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

2:9

有主的一個天使站在他們旁邊，主的榮光周圍照射他們﹔他們大為懼怕。

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

2:10

天使對他們說︰「別伯了﹔看哪，我把大喜的信息傳給你們，就是將要給予萬民的。

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

2:11

因為在大衛的城里、今天為你們生了一位拯救者，就是主基督（有古卷作︰主的彌賽亞）。

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

2:12

你們要看見一個嬰兒、用布包著、臥在秣槽里︰這就是給予你們的記號。」

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

2:13

忽然有一大群天兵同那天使頌贊上帝說︰

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

2:14

「在至高地方、榮耀歸于上帝﹔地上和平、（或譯︰平安）、在他所喜悅的人中間（有古卷作︰有善意在人中間）」。

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

2:15

眾天使離開他們、往天上去了，牧人就彼此說︰「我們總要過去、到伯利恆，看看所發生的、主所報給我們知道的、這件事。」

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

2:16

他們急忙去了，就找到了馬利亞和約瑟、同那臥在秣槽的嬰兒。

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

2:17

既已看見，就把天使對他們所說論這孩子的話（或譯︰事）都傳報給人知道。

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

2:18

聽見的人都希奇牧人對他們所說的事。

And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

2:19

馬利亞卻把這一切事存在心里，反復思想。

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

2:20

牧人回去，因所聽見所看見的、就是天使向他們所說的一切事、便將榮耀歸與上帝，頌贊他。

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

2:21

滿了八天、給孩子行割禮的時候、孩子的名字就叫耶穌﹔這是他受孕母腹以前、天使所起的。

And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

2:22

他們按摩西的律法守潔淨的日子己滿，父母就帶著孩子上耶路撒冷去獻與主﹔

And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

2:23

﹝照主律法上所記的，「頭胎男丁都當分別為聖而歸主」﹞，

(As it is written in the law of the LORD, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

2:24

也按主律法上所說的獻祭物︰就是一對斑鳩或兩只雛鴿。

And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

2:25

當時在耶路撒冷有一個人名叫西面﹔這人又正義又虔誠，素來期望著以色列之受安慰，且有聖靈在身。

And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

2:26

他得了聖靈的諭示，說他還未見主所膏立的基督以前，必不見死。

And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

2:27

他在聖靈感動中進了殿，耶穌的父母正抱著孩子耶穌進來，要照律法的成規辦理他的事。

And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

2:28

西面就把孩子接到手臂中、祝頌上帝說︰

Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

2:29

「主宰阿，照你應許的話、如今你釋放你奴仆安然而去了﹔

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

2:30

因為我已親眼看到你的拯救，

For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

2:31

就是你所豫備在萬族之民面前、

Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

2:32

對外國人做啟示的光、又做你民以色列之榮耀的。」

A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

2:33

孩子的父親和母親、對所說關于他的事、正希奇的時候、

And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

2:34

西面就給他們祝福，對孩子的母親馬利亞說︰「看吧，這孩子被設立、必使以色列中許多人跌倒、許多人復起，也必做辯論的對象，將許多人心里的意念揭露出來﹔就是你自己的心、刀劍也要扎透。」

And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

2:25

(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

2:36

有一個女的神言人亞拿、是亞設支派、法內力的女兒。這個人年紀已經老邁﹔從她童女時期以后、同丈夫生活了，

And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

2:37

就寡居、直到八十四歲（或譯︰寡居了八十四年）。并沒有離開過殿﹔黑夜白日、用禁食和祈求來事奉。

And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

2:38

正在那時候、她上前來、稱謝上帝，將孩子的事對一切期望耶路撒冷得贖放的人講論。

And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

2:39

約瑟和馬利亞（希臘文作︰他們）辦完了照主的律法應辦的一切事，就回加利利、到自己的城拿撒勒去了。

And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

2:40

那孩子漸漸長大，強健起來，充滿著智慧，上帝的恩在他身上。

And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

2:41

每年逾越節期、他父母總是往耶路撒冷去的。

Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

2:42

當他十二歲的時候、他們就按節期的規矩上去。

And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

2:43

日子滿了、他門回來的時候、孩子耶穌還留頓在耶路撒冷﹔他父母并不知道﹔

And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

2:44

以為他在同行的人中間﹔走了一天的路程，才在親戚和熟識的人中間尋找他。

But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

2:45

找不著，就回耶路撒冷去尋找他。

And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

2:46

過了三天、就找著他在殿里，坐在教師們中間，也聽他們，也詰問他們。

And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

2:47

凡聽見的都驚奇他的聰明、他的應對。

And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

2:48

他父母看見他、就很驚駭﹔他母親對他說︰「孩子，你為什么這樣待我們？你看，你父親和我直傷心找你呢。」

And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

2:49

耶穌對他們說︰「為什么找我？豈不知我應當在我父的地方么？」

And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

2:50

他對他們所說的話、他們都不曉悟。

And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

2:51

他就同他們下去、到拿撒勒、去順服他們﹔他母親把這一切事都存在心里。

And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

2:52

耶穌在智慧和身量（或譯︰歲數）上、在得上帝和人的恩愛上、漸漸地增進。

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
