于是非斯都赴省上任。過了三天，就從該撒利亞上耶路撒冷。
|
|
|
Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem.
|
|
25:2
|
祭司長和猶太人的首領、將告保羅的事稟報他，又央求他，
|
|
|
Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,
|
|
25:3
|
求個人情要害保羅。叫他打發人將保羅提到耶路撒冷，他們要在路間設埋伏殺掉他。
|
|
|
And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.
|
|
25:4
|
非斯都就回答說︰「保羅是被看守在該撒利亞的﹔我本人又快要出行往那里去了。」
|
|
|
But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.
|
|
25:5
|
他說︰「所以你們中間有能力的領袖盡可以一同下去﹔如果那人有什么橫逆不道的事，就讓他們控告他。」
|
|
|
Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
|
|
25:6
|
非斯都在他們中間逗留了也不過十天八天，就下該撒利亞去。第二天即坐在台上審判，發命令將保羅帶來。
|
|
|
And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.
|
|
25:7
|
保羅來了，那些從耶路撒冷下來的猶太人便在他周圍站著，拿又多又重、他們不能証實的告狀來起訴。
|
|
|
And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.
|
|
25:8
|
保羅分訴說︰「猶太人的律法或聖殿、或該撒、我都沒有干犯過。」
|
|
|
While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all.
|
|
25:9
|
非斯都想要對猶太人作個人情，就回答保羅說︰「關于這些事、你愿意上耶路撒冷，在那里在我面前受審判么？」
|
|
|
But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?
|
|
25:10
|
保羅說︰「我站在該撒的審判台前，應當在該撒台前受審判﹔我對猶太人并沒有行過什么不對的事﹔就是大人也明明理會的。
|
|
|
Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.
|
|
25:11
|
我若行了不對的事，犯了什么該死的罪，就是死也不推辭﹔不過、這些人所控告我的、如果是沒的事，就沒有人能徇人情將我交給他們。我要向該撒上訴。」
|
|
|
For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.
|
|
25:12
|
當下非斯都同參議會商議，便回答說︰「你向該撒上訴了！你要去見該撒！」
|
|
|
Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? unto Caesar shalt thou go.
|
|
25:13
|
過了些日子、亞基帕王和百尼基抵達了該撒利亞，給非斯都請安。
|
|
|
And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Caesarea to salute Festus.
|
|
25:14
|
他們在那里逗留了好几天，非斯都將告保羅的事向王陳述說︰「這里有一個人、是腓力斯留下來的囚犯。
|
|
|
And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:
|
|
25:15
|
我在耶路撒冷的時候、祭司長和猶太人的長老曾經將他的事稟報了，要求定他的罪。
|
|
|
About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.
|
|
25:16
|
我回答他們說︰『無論什么人，被告還沒有和原告當面對質，對案情還沒有得分訴之余地，徇人情把他定罪，這不是羅馬人的規矩。』
|
|
|
To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.

25:17
|
所以他們一同來到這里的時候、我絲毫不事延擱，次日便坐在台上審判，發命令把那人帶來。
|
|
|
Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.
|
|
25:18
|
關于他的事、原告站起來，并沒有提出什么告狀是我所猜想的惡事，
|
|
|
Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:
|
|
25:19
|
不過告他一些關于他們自己敬畏鬼神之事的問題。又是關于一個已經死了、保羅還指說是活著神的事，又為一個人名叫耶穌，是已經死了，保羅卻說他是活著的耶穌。
|
|
|
But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
|
|
25:20
|
這些事該怎樣究問、我心里為難，就問他有沒有意思要上耶路撒冷，在那里為這些事受審判。
|
|
|
And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
|
|
25:21
|
但保羅卻訴請留他，等待皇帝審斷﹔所以我就發命令留他，等我把他送上去給該撒。」
|
|
|
But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar.
|
|
25:22
|
亞基帕對非斯都說︰「我本來就有意思要親自聽聽這個人的。」非斯都說︰「明天王就可以聽他。」
|
|
|
Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.
|
|
25:23
|
第二天、亞基帕王和百尼基就大張儀仗而來，同著千夫長和城里杰出的人進了廳堂﹔非斯都一發命令，保羅就被帶來。
|
|
|
And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus' commandment Paul was brought forth.
|
|
25:24
|
非斯都說︰「亞基帕王、和所有跟我們一同在座的人，你們看這個人、就是所有的猶太民眾、不但在耶路撒冷、也在這里、曾經向我請求，呼喊著說、他不該再活著的。
|
|
|
And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
|
|
25:25
|
我呢、卻理會他沒有作過該死的事﹔并且這個人自己既已上訴了皇帝，我便決定給解送了。
|
|
|
But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.
|
|
25:26
|
關于這個人、我沒有確實的事可以呈寫給主上﹔所以我把他提出來在你們面前，尤其在亞基帕王面前，好在檢問之后、有可以呈寫的。
|
|
|
Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
|
|
25:27
|
因為我以為、解送囚犯、不附帶指明告他的罪狀、是不合理的。」
|
|
|
For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid against him.
