5:1

這些事以后，又到了猶太人的一個（有古卷作︰那個）節期，耶穌就上耶路撒泠去。

After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

5:2

在耶路撒泠有個池子、靠近羊門，希伯來土話叫畢士大（此處有數異文），有五個廊子。

Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

5:3

這些廊子里面躺臥著成群患病的人︰瞎眼的、瘸腿的、枯乾的。

In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

5:4

（有古卷加︰等待水動﹔有的更加︰『因為有主的一個使者按時下池子、攪動那水﹔這樣，水動之后、先下去的、無論被什么症所纏，總得康健。』）

For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

5:5

那里有一個人，患病有三十八年了。

And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

5:6

耶穌看見這個人躺臥著，知道他已有許久了，就對他說︰「你想要得康健么？」

When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

5:7

那患病的人回答回答耶穌說︰「先生（希臘文作︰主），我沒有人、可以在水被攪動時、把我放進池子里﹔我正去的時候，已有別人比我先下去了！」

The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

5:8

耶穌對他說︰「起來，拿起你的鋪蓋來，走路吧！」

Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

5:9

那人立刻得康健，就拿起他的鋪蓋來，走路了。那天是安息日。

And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

5:10

于是猶太人對那得治好的人說︰「今天是安息日，你拿鋪蓋是不可以的。」

The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

5:11

他卻回答他們說︰「使我得康健的那個人對我說︰『拿起你的鋪蓋來，走路吧。』」

He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

5:12

他們就詰問他說︰「那對你說『拿起來走路』的人是誰？」

Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

5:13

那得醫治的人不知道他是誰，因為在那地方有一大群人，耶穌已經退避開了。

And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

5:14

這些事以后，耶穌遇見那人在殿里，就對他說︰「你看，你已經得了康健，別再犯罪了，免得患的更厲害。」

Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

5:15

那人就去告訴猶太人說、那使他康健的是耶穌。

The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

5:16

故此猶太人逼迫耶穌，因為他在安息日作了這些事。

And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

5:17

耶穌就回答他們說︰「我父作工直到現在，我也作工。」

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

5:18

為這緣故、猶太人就越發想法子要殺耶穌，因為他不但犯了安息日，并且稱上帝為自己的父，拿自己跟上帝平等。

Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

5:19

于是耶穌回答他們說︰「我實實在在地告訴你們，子憑著自己并不能作什么，只有看見父作的、他才能作﹔因為父（希臘文作︰那一位）無論作什么，子也照樣作什么。

Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

5:20

父喜愛子，將自己所作的都指給他看﹔就使比這些更大的事工也要指給他看，叫你們希奇。

For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

5:21

父怎樣叫死人活起來，使他們活著，子也怎樣隨著意思叫人活著。

For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

5:22

父不審判什么人，乃將一切審判的事都給了子，

For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

5:23

叫人都尊敬子，像尊敬父一樣。不尊敬子的，就是不尊敬差他的父。

That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

5:24

我實實在在地告訴你們，聽我的話、而信差我者的、有永生，不至于受定罪，乃是已經從死里越到生里來了。

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

5:25

我實實在在地告訴你們，時候必到，如今就是了，死人必聽上帝兒子的聲音，而聽的人就必活起來。

Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

5:26

因為父怎樣在自己里面有生命，也給兒子怎樣在自己里面有生命。

For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

5:27

并且因他是人子、就給他行權柄來行審判。

And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

5:28

你們別把這事看作希奇了﹔因為時候必到，那時凡在墳墓里的、都必聽他的聲音

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

5:29

而出來﹔行善的去到有生命之復活中，作壞事的去到受定罪之復活里。

And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

5:30

「憑著自己、我不能作什么﹔我怎么聽見，就怎樣判斷﹔并且我的判斷又是公義的，因為我不尋求我自己的意思，只我求那差我者的意思。

I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

5:31

我若為自己作見証，我的見証就不真實﹔

If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

5:32

乃是另有一位為我作見証，我知道他為我作（希臘文作︰那一位）的見証是真實的。

There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

5:33

你們曾差遣人去見約翰，他就是為『真實（或譯︰真理）』作了見証的︰

Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.

5:34

﹝其實我不從人類領受見証，我只說這些話，好使你們得救。﹞

But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.

5:35

那個人是點著而發亮的燈，你們情愿暫時以他的光為歡樂。

He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

5:36

但我卻有見証比約翰的大﹔因為父所給我、要我完成的工──我所作的這些工──正為我作見証父差遣了我。

But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

5:37

差我的父，才為我作了見証。你們從沒聽見過他的聲音，也沒看見過他的形狀﹔

And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

5:38

你們又沒有他的話存在你們里面，因為他差遣的這一位、你們竟不信。

And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.

5:39

你們探索經典，因為以為在其中可以得到永生﹔而那為我作見証的正是這些經﹔

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

5:40

你們卻不情愿來找我得生命！

And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

5:41

從人來的榮耀、我不領受，

I receive not honour from men.

5:42

我只認識你們，知道你們沒有愛上帝的心在你們里面。

But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

5:43

我奉我父的名而來，你們不接納我﹔若有別人奉自己的名而來，那種人你們倒要接納呢！

I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

5:44

你們互相領受榮耀，不求從獨一無二之上帝那里來的榮耀，怎能信呢？

How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

5:45

別以為是我要在父面前控告你們了。有控告你們的、就是你們素來所寄望的摩西。

Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

5:46

你們如果信摩西，也就會信我了﹔因為關于我的事、他曾寫過。

For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

5:47

你們若不信他所寫的，怎能信我的話語呢？」

But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
