9:1

我在基督里說實話,并不撒謊﹔我的良知在聖靈之感動里給我作証、

I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

9:2

我怎樣地大有憂愁、心里不住的傷痛。

That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

9:3

為我弟兄、我骨肉之親、我巴不得被革除、和基督隔絕呢!

For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

9:4

他們是以列人,有被立為子的名分,有上帝之榮現,有諸約,有律法之制定,有事奉的聖禮,有諸應許︰都是他們的﹔

Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

9:5

列祖是他們的﹔上帝所膏立者基督肉身上也是由他們而出的︰那在萬有之上的(有數譯法,今再取其一﹔『他在萬有之上』)上帝是當被祝頌、萬世無窮的。阿們(即︰『誠心所愿』的意思)。

Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

9:6

但這并不是說、上帝的話似乎廢墮了。原來從以色列而出的、并不都是『以色列人』。

Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

9:7

也不是因他們做亞伯拉罕的后裔、就都是真『兒女』,乃是「本于以撒的、才要叫做你的后裔」。

Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

9:8

這就是說,不是這些肉身的兒女、就可以做上帝的兒女,乃是應許的兒女才算為后裔。

That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

9:9

因為上帝所說的︰「明年大約這時候我要來,撒拉必生個兒子」這句話、就是一句應許的話。

For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.

9:10

不但如此,還有利百加呢﹔她從我們的先祖以撒一個人而有了孕﹔

And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

9:11

在雙子還沒生下來、好壞還沒作出來時﹝為要使上帝按揀選的旨意得以堅立,不是由于人的行為,乃是由于上帝的呼召﹞,

(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

9:12

上帝就對利百加說︰「大的必服事小的」﹔

It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

9:13

正如經上所記︰「我愛了雅各,少愛以掃。」

As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

9:14

這樣,我們怎么說呢?難道在上帝還有不公平么?斷乎沒有。

What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

9:15

因為他對摩西說︰「我要體恤(通譯︰憐恤)誰,就體恤(通譯︰憐恤)誰﹔我要憐憫誰,就憐憫誰。」

For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

9:16

這便不是在乎那意愿的,也不是在乎那奔跑的,乃是在乎發憐恤人的上帝了。

So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

9:17

因為經上有話對法老說︰「我將你舉起來,正是要証顯我的權能在你身上,并在全地上遍傳我的名。」

For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

9:18

這便是他不但愿意憐恤誰,就憐恤誰、而且愿意叫誰剛愎、就叫誰剛愎了。

Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

9:19

這樣,你必對我說︰「他為什么還指摘人呢?誰反對過他的主意呢?」

Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?

9:20

但是人哪,你到底是誰,你這跟上帝頂咀的?被塑造的哪能對塑造他的說︰『你為什么造我像這樣呢?』

Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

9:21

窯匠對泥土難道沒有權柄從同一團泥作器皿,有的作成貴重的,有的作成下賤的么?

Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

9:22

倘若上帝雖有意要証顯他的義怒,播知他的能力,卻用大恆忍寬容那應受義怒的、准備進入滅亡的、器皿,

What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

9:23

為要播知他榮耀之丰富是賜給那蒙憐憫的、那早豫備好了、可進入『榮耀』的、器皿,就怎么樣呢?他所寬容的

And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

9:24

這些器皿居然又是我們這些、不但從猶太中間、也從外國人中間、蒙上帝呼召的人,那有什么話可說呢?

Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

9:25

就像上帝也在何西阿書上說了︰「我要稱(與上『呼召』一詞同字)非我民、為我民﹔稱非蒙愛者為蒙愛的。」

As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.

9:26

「將來必這樣︰從前在什么地方有話對他們說︰『你們不是我的子民』,就在那地方,他們就必稱為永活上帝的兒子。」。

And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

9:27

以賽亞也指著以色列喊著說︰「以色列子孫的數目雖如海沙,將要得救的還只是剩下之余數﹔

Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

9:28

因為主必徹底而簡截地行盡審判的話于地上。」

For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

9:29

又如以賽亞先前也說過︰「若不是萬軍之主給我們遺留了后裔,我們早就成了所多瑪,變像蛾摩拉的樣子了。」

And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.

9:30

這樣,我們可怎么說呢?那不追求義的外國人倒追著了義、那本著信的義﹔

What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

9:31

而以色列追求著稱義的律法,反而達不到律法。

But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.

9:32

為什么緣故呢?這是因為他們不本著信心而求,反而為可本著行為而求︰他們正碰倒在那碰腳的石頭上阿!

Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

9:33

正如經上所記︰「你看,我把一塊碰腳的石頭、令人絆跌的磐石放在錫安,信靠他的必不至于失望。」

As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

a
