4:1

（亞蘭文作但3︰31）尼布甲尼撒王寄詔書給住全地的各族之民、列國之民、和各種方言的人，說︰「愿你們多享平安興隆！

Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

4:2

至高上帝向我所行的神跡奇事、我樂意宣揚出來。

I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.

4:3

他的神跡多么大呀！他的奇事多么有魄力呀！他的國是永遠的國﹔他的權柄代代常存。

How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

4:4

（亞蘭文作但4︰1）我尼布甲尼撒優游安閑在我宮中，享盡豪華在我的宮殿里。

I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:

4:5

竟作了一個夢，使我恐懼﹔我在床上，幻想和我腦中所見的異象、使我驚惶。

I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

4:6

我就下了諭旨、將巴比倫所有的博士都召到我面前，叫他們把夢的解析告訴我。

Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

4:7

于是那些學朮士、那些用法朮的、和迦勒底博學的人、跟占卜的、都進了來﹔我將那夢告訴了他們，他們卻不能把個夢的解析告訴我。

Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

4:8

到末了、但以理進來到我面前──照我的神的名字、但以理名叫伯提沙撒﹔他里頭有聖神明之靈（或譯︰至聖上帝之靈）──我將夢告訴他說︰

But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my God, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,

4:9

「學朮士的領袖伯提沙撒阿，因為我知道你里頭有聖神明之靈（或譯︰至聖上帝之靈），什么機密的事都不能使你為難﹔看哪，這時我夢中所見的異象﹔你要把它的解析說出來（或譯︰你要把我夢中所見的異象和它的解析說出來）。

O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

4:10

我在床上、腦中所見的異象是這樣︰我觀看著，我見地當中有一棵樹，極其高。

Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

4:11

那樹直長起來，長得很堅強，高到頂天，全地四極都能看到。

The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

4:12

它的葉子美麗，它的果子極多，眾生的食物就在其中。山野的走獸得到蔭影在它之下，空中的飛鳥住在它的枝子上，凡有血肉的都從它而得食。

The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.

4:13

「我在床上，在我腦中所見的異象中、我觀看著，就見有一位警衛者、就是一位聖者、從天上降下來。

I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

4:14

我使勁喊著，這樣說︰『要伐倒這樹，要砍下它的枝子，搖掉它的葉子，拋散它的果子，使走獸離開樹下，使飛鳥躲開樹枝。

He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:

4:15

然而它根上的樹墩子卻要留在地里，用獫圈和銅圈箍住，在山野的嫩草中讓天露滴濕，使他的分兒就在地上的青草，跟走獸一樣。

Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

4:16

使他的心改變得不是人的心﹔給他一個獸的心，使他經過七個時期。

Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

4:17

這件事乃是由那些警衛者所發的命令﹔這事情是由那些聖者所傳的話，好叫眾生知道︰至高者在人國中掌權，他喜歡將國賜給誰、就賜給誰﹔或是立極卑微的人執掌國權。』

This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

4:18

這個夢就是我尼布甲尼撒王所夢見的﹔伯提沙撒阿，你要將這夢的解析說明白，因為我國中所有的博士都不能將夢的解析告訴我，惟獨你能，因為你里頭有聖神明之靈（或譯︰至聖上帝之靈）。」

This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

4:19

于是那名叫伯提沙撒的但以理一時愕然，他的思想使他驚惶。王應時說︰「伯提沙撒阿，不要讓夢和夢的解析使你驚惶。」伯提沙撒回答說︰「我主阿，愿這夢歸與恨惡你的人，而其解析歸與你的敵人。

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

4:20

你所見的樹直長起來，長得很堅強，高得頂天，全地都能看到﹔

The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

4:21

它的葉子美麗，它的果子極多，眾生的食物就在其中，山野的走獸住它之下，空中的飛鳥居于它的枝子。

Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:

4:22

「王阿，這直長起來，而長得很堅強的就是你。你的強大直增強著，強到頂天，你的權柄管到地極。

It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

4:23

王既看見一位警衛者、就是一位聖者、從天上降下來，說︰『要將這樹伐倒毀壞﹔然而它根上的樹墩子卻要留在地里，用獫圈和銅圈箍住，在山野的嫩草中讓天露滴濕，使他的分兒跟山野的走獸一樣，直到七個時期他都經歷過去』﹔

And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;

4:24

王阿，夢的解析就是這樣︰那臨到我主我王的事就是至高者所定的命令︰

This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:

4:25

說你必被趕逐、離開人類，你的住處必同山野的走獸在一起﹔你必受迫而吃草如牛，被天露滴濕，經過七個時期﹔等到你承認至高者在人國中掌權，他喜歡將國賜給誰、就賜給誰。

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

4:26

警衛者既吩咐把樹根上的墩子留著，那就是說︰等到你承認是天在掌權，你的國就必立定歸你。

And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

4:27

所以、王阿，求你悅納我的諫諍，以顯義氣而斷絕罪惡，以憐憫貧困人而除掉罪孽，使你的安樂興隆或者可以延長。」

Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

4:28

這些事都應驗到尼布甲尼撒王身上了。

All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

4:29

過了十二個月，王在巴比倫王家宮殿上散步。

At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

4:30

王應時說︰「這豈不是大巴比倫，我用我財力的權勢所建筑、做王家宮殿，要顯示我威嚴之光榮的么？」

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

4:31

這話在王口中，還未說完，就有聲音從天上傳下來，說︰「尼布甲尼撒王阿，有神言是對你說的︰國權已經離開了你了。

While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.

4:32

你必被趕逐離開人類，你的住處必同山野的走獸在一起﹔你必受迫而吃草如牛，經過七個時期，等到你承認至高者在人國中掌權，他喜歡將國賜給誰，就賜給誰。」

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

4:33

立刻地、這神言就應驗到尼布甲尼撒身上了。他即被趕逐離開人類，吃草如牛，其身體被天露滴濕，以致其頭發長長像鷹毛，其指甲如同鳥爪。

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

4:34

「日子過后，我尼布甲尼撒舉目望天，我的悟牲恢復過來，我便祝頌那至高者，稱頌那活到永遠的上帝，而歸榮耀于他︰因為他的權柄是永遠的權柄，他的國度代代長存。

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

4:35

地上所有的居民都算不了什么﹔在天上的萬軍、和地上的居民中、他都憑自己的意旨行事﹔沒有人能攔住他的手，或是問他說︰『你作什么？』

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

4:36

就在那時我的悟性就恢復過來﹔為了我國的光榮、我的威嚴和光輝也都恢復歸我。我的參謀和大臣又常來求見﹔我又得堅立在國位上﹔超越的尊大又加增于我。

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

4:37

現在我，尼布甲尼撒、稱頌、尊崇、歸榮耀于天上的王，因為他所作的全都對，他所行的也都公平﹔他能把行為驕傲的降為卑微。」

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
