誰比得上智慧人呢？誰知道事情的解決法呢？人的智慧使他臉上有光輝，使他臉上的粗暴都變化了。

|
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

8:2
|
（傳統此處有『我』字）王的命令你要遵守，這是為了你曾指著上帝來起誓、的緣故。
|
|
|
I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.
|
|
8:3
|
不要急躁地離開王面前﹔事情難辦時、你不要固執﹔因為他喜歡怎么作、就怎么作。
|
|
|
Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.
|

8:4
|
因為王的話最有權力，誰能問他說︰「你在作什么？」
|
|
|
Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
|

8:5
|
凡遵守命令的必不至于經歷禍患的事﹔智慧人的心自能曉得作事的時候與風度。
|
|
|
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.
|

8:6
|
各樣事務都有作成的時候與風度﹔因為人的困難重壓在他身上︰
|
|
|
Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.
|

8:7
|
他不知道將來要怎樣，因為將來的事誰能告訴他呢？
|
|
|
For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?
|
|
8:8
|
沒有人有權力掌管著生氣，將生氣留住﹔也沒有人有權力掌管著死的日子︰戰爭上并沒有免役的事（或譯︰沒有假期）﹔邪惡也不能使那好行邪惡的逃脫。
|
|
|
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
|

8:9
|
這一切我都見過，也用心查考日光之下所常發生的一切事（此傳統原有︰『時候』一詞）︰這人的權力怎樣掌管那人、讓他受害。
|
|
|
All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.
|

8:10
|
然后我見過惡人有人給他送葬﹔他們生前來來往往于聖所，終于在他們這樣行的城里被忘記︰這也是虛空（本節經文甚為殘缺，意難確定）。
|
|
|
And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.
|

8:11
|
壞事的定案不立刻施刑罰，故此人類的心敢（原文︰充滿）于作壞事。
|
|
|
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
|
|
8:12
|
好犯罪的人雖百般地作壞事，而延年益壽，但我准知道︰敬畏上帝的人終久是在他面前敬畏的人，終久必得享樂，因為他們在他面前存著敬畏的心﹔
|
|
|
Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
|

8:13
|
但是惡人卻不能得享樂，而延年益壽﹔他只像日影﹔因為他在上帝面前不存著敬畏的心。
|
|
|
But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.
|
|
8:14
|
有一件虛空的事、是地上常發生的︰就是有義人、所遭遇的、是照惡人的行為應得的﹔又有惡人、所遭遇的、是照義人所應得的︰我說這也是虛空。
|
|
|
There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

8:15
|
我，我于是稱贊喜樂﹔因為人在日光之下莫如吃喝喜樂﹔盡上帝在日光之下所賜給他的一生年日、這必在他的勞碌中時刻伴著他。
|
|
|
Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.

8:16
|
我用心要認識智慧，要看明地上所常發生的事體﹔（此處有一句移17節）
|
|
|
When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:)

8:17
|
我就看明上帝一切的作為，知道日光之下所常發生的事、人總不能查出﹔任憑人怎樣勞碌去尋查，就使他晝夜眼都沒見過睡覺（系由16節末移此的），他還是不能查出。
|
|
|
Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
