9:1
|
我將這一切事放在心上，我的心就看明了（此句似可譯︰要証明）這一切︰就是義人和智慧人、以及他們所作的、都在上帝手中︰或是愛，或是恨，人都不能知﹔在他們面前一切都是虛空（傳統︰一切都是一切）。

|
|
For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
|

9:2
|
眾人都有一樣的遭遇︰義人和惡人、好人和壞人、潔淨人和不潔淨的人、獻祭的和沒獻祭的、都一樣︰好人怎樣，好犯罪的人也怎樣﹔起誓的怎樣，怕起誓的也怎樣。
|
|
|
All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
|

9:3
|
在日光之下所發生的一切事上、有一件最大的禍患︰就是一切人所遭遇的都是一樣﹔并且人類的心都充滿著壞事﹔他們一生心里都是狂妄，其后呢──都到死人那里去！
|
|
|
This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
|
|
9:4
|
但凡跟一切活人相連的、那人還有指望﹔因為活的狗比死了的獅子強。
|
|
|
For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
|
|
9:5
|
因為活著的人還知道自己會死﹔死了的人則毫無所知﹔他們也不能再得賞報﹔因為他們的遺跡沒有人懷念著。
|
|
|
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
|
|
9:6
|
他們的愛、他們的恨、他們的嫉妒、早都消滅了﹔在日光之下所發生的一切事上、他們永不再有分了。
|
|
|
Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
|
|
9:7
|
喂，你只管歡歡喜喜去吃你的飯吧﹔心里高興去喝你的酒吧﹔因為上帝已經喜悅了你的工作。
|
|
|
Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
|
|
9:8
|
你的衣服要時常潔白﹔你頭上也不要缺少膏油。
|
|
|
Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
|
|
9:9
|
盡你虛空的人生、就是上帝在日光之下、盡你虛幻的年日中所賜給你的，你要同你所愛的妻子享人生之樂﹔因為那是你的分兒，在你人生中、和你在日光之下所勞力的勞碌中、的分兒。
|
|
|
Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
|
|
9:10
|
凡你的手見得可作的事、你總要盡力去作﹔因為在你所要去的陰間、那里沒有工作，沒有設計，沒有知識，也沒有智慧。
|
|
|
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
|
|
9:11
|
我又看︰在日光之下、賽跑未必給輕快的先跑到，戰爭未必給勇士得勝利，糧食也未必給智慧人得著，財富未必給明達人賺得到，恩寵也未必給有知識的人博得著︰他們所碰到的就只是定時與機會。
|
|
|
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
|

9:12
|
因為人類并不知道他自己的定時︰魚怎樣被捉住于致禍的網里，鳥怎樣被捉住于機檻中，人類當禍患時、災禍忽然降到他們的身上，人怎樣被羅住。
|
|
|
For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
|
|
9:13
|
以下這一項在日光之下我也看見，是智慧的例子﹔在我看來大有意義。
|
|
|
This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
|

9:14
|
有一個小城，里邊的人稀少﹔有一個大王來攻擊它，圍繞它，修筑大高壘來攻打它。
|
|
|
There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:
|
|
9:15
|
但城中有一個人很貧窮，卻有智慧﹔他用他的智慧搭救了那城﹔卻沒有人懷念著那人，那貧窮漢。
|
|
|
Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
|
|
9:16
|
我說，雖即那貧窮漢的智慧盡管被藐視，而他的話盡管無人聽從，然智慧終是勝過勇力的。
|
|
|
Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
|
|
9:17
|
智慧人的話安安靜靜地有人聽，勝過掌管者在愚昧人之中的喊叫聲。
|
|
|
The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
|
|
9:18
|
智慧比打仗的器械好，但一個作錯了事的人能把許多好事弄壞。
|
|
|
Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
